Adam is 7 years old and loves school and playing music. He also like
art and dancing. Adam lives here in Salt Lake City with his mom,
Tina, and dad, Steve.
-------Adam Persels was born in February 2000. He was 12 weeks
premature. Adam is now 7 years old, and lives with global brain
injury, hydrocephalus (from head bleeds directly related to premature
birth), diplegic cerebral palsy, and autism. Adam is non-verbal.
Adam lived in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit for the first 367 days
of his life. When he finally came home, he had endured 20 surgeries,
and was on a ventilator to assist his breathing.
Adam is a vibrant, happy little boy. He goes to a special education
class and loves school. Now, at age 7, he is showing his parents and
caregivers he wants to communicate. Most of the time, it is very
difficult for him to tell you what he wants. Sometimes he can take your
hand and point to it.
Steve and Tina, his parents, wish to try hyperbaric oxygen therapy
with Adam in hopes to see some improvement in his skills. ----- Tina
