Julius Matthew Steubing
Born February 11, 2000
Julius is a bright-eyed, intelligent, patient and happy little boy who
lives with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. Jules has CP due to
prolonged lack of oxygen during his birth that seriously injured his
basil ganglia, the region of brain that is primarily responsible for all
motor function throughout the body. Jules needs assistance with
everything. He requires a wheelchair, is non-verbal, tube fed and
experiences life-threatening seizures.
This determined little boy is in love with life and usually wakes in the
morning giggling with pleasure for the new day. Jules adores
music, dancing, horse-back riding, and swimming and has been
involved with art making since he was three years old.
When he was an infant, Julius had two series of hyperbaric oxygen
treatments and later participated in a preliminary trial using
hyperbaric medicine to treat children with cerebral palsy. The first
time we witnessed Jules use a supported walker and bring an
object up to his face was after he had several hyperbaric dives.
It has been years since Julius has had any hyperbaric medicine.
The possibility to tap into this therapy again is very exciting.
